How BLACKFILE works: six stages from enquiry to results
You describe your needs. We assess the request, agree the plan, timeframe and cost, gather and verify information, and deliver the results with the basis for each conclusion.
We do not begin research until we understand which decision the information needs to support.
That answer determines everything else: the questions to examine, the countries to research, the depth required and the format of the deliverable. The first three stages therefore focus on understanding the matter before research begins.
We agree every step with you. We start only after you approve the plan, timeline and cost.
+Contact / matter and decision
The first conversation is about your matter and the decision you need to make. No documents are needed at this stage.
03 / STAGES OF WORK
Six stages. Each with a clear outcome.
At every stage you can see what we do, what you do and how the stage ends.

01/Contact
Initial contact
What we do
We read your request and ask clarifying questions. At this stage we do not ask for documents or personal data.
What you do
You describe the situation in a few sentences: what needs to be established, for which decision, in which countries and by what date.
OutcomePreliminary understanding of the task
02/ReviewBLACKFILE confirmation
Review of the task
What we do
We assess the lawful purpose, conflicts of interest, risks and whether the necessary information can be obtained. We do not accept matters requiring unlawful actions.
What you do
Answer the clarifying questions. You do not need to know which service to choose; we will identify the appropriate one.
OutcomeWhether we can accept the matter
03/Secure brief
Secure briefing
What we do
We propose a secure channel, clarify the questions and review the initial information. We request only what is needed for the matter.
What you do
Share the initial materials through the agreed channel: documents, correspondence and known information about the parties.
OutcomeBrief: questions, initial information and limitations
04/ScopeApproval by you
Work plan
What we do
We prepare a plan covering the questions and subjects to be examined, countries, stages, timeframes, fees, deliverable format and completion criteria.
What you do
You review the plan and approve it. We do not start without your approval.
OutcomeApproved plan, timeline and cost
05/Verify
Collection and verification
What we do
We collect information from permissible sources and cross-check it. We confirm material facts with independent sources and record any contradictions.
What you do
You receive status updates at the agreed stages. Any new line of enquiry is agreed with you before work on it begins.
OutcomeVerified factual picture
06/Delivery
Result
What we do
We provide answers to your questions, the basis for our findings, identified risks and what could not be established. On request, we discuss the findings with you and your advisers.
What you do
Receive the final deliverable and determine your next step: a transaction, a document request, further checks or a discussion with a lawyer.
OutcomeMaterial for decision-making
Start
Start with a few sentences
What needs to be established, which decision it will inform, in which countries and by when. Documents are not needed yet.
The plan you approve at the fourth stage sets out six terms. None changes without your agreement.
You approve the work plan. We do not start without your approval.
T-01/SCOPE
Scope
Who and what we examine, which questions we address, in which countries and to what depth.
T-02/TIME
Duration
Stages and dates. The timeframe begins once the scope has been agreed and the initial information received.
T-03/COST
Cost
Depends on the number of countries, the depth of the review and the availability of sources. Excluding taxes and third-party costs, which we agree separately.
T-04/CONTACT
Connection
Who leads the project on our side, which communication channel is used and when you receive updates.
T-05/OUTPUT
Result
The format of the final deliverable and the criteria for completing the work.
T-06/DATA
Materials
What information we need from you, how to share it, where it is stored and when it is deleted.
A new question during the work requires a new agreement. The scope, timeframe and budget do not change without your consent.
Answers to your questions. With the basis explained.
The final deliverable answers the questions in the plan. Each material conclusion shows what it is based on and how confident we are in it.
R-01 / RESULT
Answers to the questions in the plan
The deliverable is structured around the questions you approved at stage four, rather than the volume of information found.
R-02 / RESULT
The basis for each conclusion
Each material conclusion includes its source, date and confidence level.
R-03 / RESULT
Explicit gaps
We state directly what could not be established. Gaps in the information also affect the decision.
A lawyer in the relevant country assesses whether the materials can be used in court or another formal procedure. The investigation does not guarantee asset attachment, enforcement or the return of funds.
06 / BOUNDARIES
What we do not do
We check these boundaries at the second stage. They also limit the conclusions in the final report. We are responsible for the accuracy of the information and the honesty of the conclusions.
We do not take on work that requires unlawful access to data, intrusion into private life or pressure on people.
We do not promise an asset freeze, debt recovery, the return of funds or the conclusion you want.
We do not establish guilt, fraud or nominee status - that is for a court. We write "indicators" and "observed connection".
We never present a hypothesis as a fact and always state how confident each conclusion is.
We do not disclose clients or sources - neither in our materials nor in publications.
We do not assess whether material is admissible in court - that is for a lawyer in the relevant country.
Describe the situation and the decision you need to make. We will identify the service and scope during the assessment of the matter.
No. Your first message only needs the purpose, countries involved and timeframe. Documents and information about the parties are shared later, through the secure channel agreed at the third stage.
No. An order only appears at the fourth stage, when you approve the plan, timeline and cost.
We will tell you at the second stage. Reasons may include an unlawful purpose, a conflict of interest or the unavailability of the necessary information.
They depend on the number of questions, subjects and countries, the depth of the investigation and source availability. The timeframe begins after the scope has been agreed and the initial information received. Prices exclude taxes and third-party costs.
The update schedule is set out in the plan. You know who leads the project and when to expect the next update. Questions requiring your decision are raised without waiting for a scheduled update.
Only with your consent. If a finding opens a new line of enquiry, we describe it, state the timeline and cost, and agree it with you.
A deliverable answering the questions in the plan. It distinguishes facts, assessments with confidence levels, and hypotheses, and identifies risks, inconsistencies and what could not be established.
If the investigation is needed for a dispute, tell us at the outset so the plan can account for the required format. A lawyer in the relevant country assesses admissibility before the particular court.
The retention period and deletion procedure are agreed in the plan before sensitive materials are shared.
