What information is needed to begin a search for a person
The more precise the initial information, the shorter and cheaper the work. In tasks of this kind, half the time is spent not on searching, but on separating the right person from others with the same surname.
The minimum needed to start
- Full name and all known variants of its spelling, including transliteration and former surnames.
- Date of birth, or at least the year - this is the main distinguishing factor.
- Last known place of residence and the period when this was current.
- Citizenship and the countries the person is connected with.
- Any documentary trace: a copy of a contract, correspondence, a photograph, account details.
What speeds the work up considerably
The circle of contacts: relatives, former colleagues, partners. A person can disappear, but the connections around them usually stay where they are.
Profession and industry - these determine where to look and what traces can exist at all.
The circumstances in which contact was lost: relocation, conflict, bankruptcy, divorce. The reason indicates the direction.
A chronology of the last known events with dates, not from memory as "around that time".
What not to send
No passwords, no access to other people's accounts, no contents of other people's correspondence and no documents obtained unlawfully. Such materials do not help; they render the entire work and its result unusable.
Nor are excess personal data of third parties unrelated to the task required. The volume of information transferred should be the minimum necessary.
What happens after the data is transferred
Identity is confirmed first: several independent indicators must converge on the same person. Only then does the search itself begin.
Next, the available lines of enquiry by jurisdiction are determined, the task is assessed for feasibility and the format of the result is agreed. If the task appears unfeasible - this is stated before the work begins, not afterwards.
