Technology
BLACKFILE's analytical infrastructure is built around verification. Any technology is applied so that a fact can be confirmed independently - not to increase the volume of data produced.
Intelligence work has stopped being a question of access to information and become a question of processing it. The volume of open data, corporate registers, court archives, media and blockchain transactions now exceeds manual analytical capacity by orders of magnitude. BLACKFILE's technology layer addresses one task: compress this volume down to a verifiable core, filter out noise, duplicates and false matches, and hand the analyst material that can be verified through independent channels.
We do not treat technology as a substitute for the analyst, as a matter of principle. An automated system can find a connection but cannot assess its significance, legal context or the reliability of the source. For this reason, the final conclusion in a BLACKFILE report always belongs to a person and passes through multi-level internal audit. Unconfirmed data is not included in the report under any circumstances.
BLACKFILE does not disclose the names of the platforms, data providers and technical solutions it uses. Disclosing specific tools would mean disclosing methodology - and with it, predictability for those against whom the work is conducted. Below are the principles and categories of tools, not their commercial names.
1 Analytical framework
Work is structured around the BLACKFILE-8 operating protocol, which combines open-source intelligence, human intelligence, financial and technical analysis, field data, behavioural analysis, crypto-analysis and risk forecasting. The technology layer supports each of these areas and brings them together into a single picture.
- Surface Intelligence - public infrastructure, digital footprints, profiles, media presence.
- Deep Archive Intelligence - historical data, archival registers, older publications, cache and web archives.
- Social Graph Intelligence - construction and analysis of connection graphs, identification of associates and affiliated persons.
- Behavioural Intelligence - behavioural patterns, reactivity, models of asset concealment and evasion.
- Financial Intelligence and Beneficiary Mapping - reconstruction of ownership structures, control chains, nominee and trust arrangements.
- Blockchain Intelligence - analysis of transaction routes, address clustering, identification of affiliated wallets.
- Technical Intelligence - domain and network infrastructure, digital activity, technical artefacts.
- Document and Digital Forensics - verification of document authenticity, recovery of traces on media and accounts provided by the client.
- Risk Modelling and Threat Modelling - construction of a threat map, scenario forecasting, assessment of the probability of developments.
- Legal Compatibility - verification of the procedural admissibility of materials in a given jurisdiction.
2 Working with data
The main technological problem of modern intelligence work is not a shortage of data but its excess and contamination. Namesakes, outdated records, deliberately planted false trails, automatically generated content and repeated extracts of the same dataset via different aggregators can distort the picture entirely. BLACKFILE's analytical framework is built on the consistent cleaning of data down to a state in which every element has a traceable origin.
Every fact undergoes legal, temporal, technical, logical, source and cross-verification. A fact confirmed by a single channel is marked as unconfirmed and is not included in the final conclusions. This rule applies even when the unconfirmed version appears convincing and convenient for the client.
- Normalisation and deduplication of datasets, removal of repeated extracts from the same source.
- Entity resolution: separating the subject from namesakes and same-name individuals based on the totality of attributes.
- Graph analysis of connections between persons, companies, addresses, assets and events.
- Temporal anchoring of each fact and reconstruction of the chronology from independent markers.
- Cross-checking through independent confirmation channels.
- Reliability marking: confirmed, requires confirmation, rejected.
- Filtering out informational noise, false matches and deliberately created traces.
3 Artificial intelligence in data processing
AI is applied at BLACKFILE at the preliminary data processing stage - where it is necessary to quickly reduce the volume of material and identify priority directions for manual verification. Machine methods handle classification, clustering and anomaly detection in large arrays well, and it is within these limits that they are used.
The output of a model is not a fact and never goes into a report directly. Any hypothesis generated automatically is subject to independent verification by an analyst against the primary source; if the primary source cannot be established, the hypothesis is discarded. We do not use generative models to formulate conclusions, assessments and recommendations in final documents - this is the responsibility of a person and of internal audit.
A separate limitation concerns security. Client materials are not uploaded to public external services and are not used to train third-party models. Processing of sensitive arrays is carried out in an isolated environment, separated from publicly accessible infrastructure.
- Classification and prioritization of large volumes of documents and publications.
- Clustering of related entities and detection of statistical anomalies.
- Named entity recognition in multilingual arrays.
- Machine translation for initial orientation in foreign-language sources with subsequent verification by a person.
- Detection of indicators of synthetic and automatically generated content.
- Not applied: automatic generation of report conclusions, automatic assignment of a "confirmed" status, decisions about a client or a subject made without analyst involvement.
4 Data sources
BLACKFILE works with legal sources. This is a fundamental limitation that determines both methodology and cost: reconstructing a picture from open, archival and licensed sources is more difficult and more expensive than turning to an illegally obtained data dump, but only such material is safe for the client and suitable for use within the legal field.
- Open government and corporate registers, registers of legal entities and beneficial owners.
- International commercial and licensed databases, access to which is provided on a contractual basis.
- Court and arbitration archives, registers of enforcement proceedings, regulatory and sanctions lists.
- Web archives, cache and public copies of materials, including deleted publications.
- Media arrays and open publications over a long historical period.
- Public blockchain data and open transaction explorers.
- Open geospatial and cartographic data.
- Official legal requests - where information can only be obtained by this means.
- Data provided by the client itself: its documents, its devices, its accounts.
- Human sources within the jurisdiction - within the framework of lawful interaction and without provocation.
5 Boundaries of what is permissible
Technological capabilities do not override legal limitations. Listed below is what BLACKFILE does not do under any circumstances and for any fee. This is not a declaration but a condition for accepting a matter for work.
- No access is made to closed government information systems.
- No leaked or illegally obtained data arrays are used.
- No unauthorized access is made to another party's infrastructure, devices or accounts.
- Access to another party's accounts is not restored.
- No interception of private communications is carried out.
- No surveillance is conducted without legal grounds, and no entry is made into private premises.
- No provocations or influence on third parties are applied.
- No manipulation of evidence or substitution of the origin of materials is carried out.
6 Security infrastructure
BLACKFILE's security environment is built on the Zero Trace model: an operation must leave no trace either with the client or with the firm. This affects storage architecture, the routes by which materials are transmitted, and the life cycle of working data.
In working materials the client is designated by an internal code; the link between the code and the actual person is known only to the head of the operation. Projects are isolated: a separate team, separate infrastructure, separate protocols, separate code names. Data belonging to different clients does not intersect.
- Materials are transmitted only through secure channels: PGP, BLACKFILE's private channel, secure self-destructing containers, and, where necessary, physical media.
- No storage of data on shared servers or in public cloud services.
- Minimization of logging and deletion of temporary data after the report is delivered.
- Physical disposal of working containers upon completion of the operation.
- Encryption of staff working devices at a level comparable to diplomatic protocol.
- Fragmentation of the team's work and separation of working channels within the operation.
- Anonymization of all materials and work under the client's internal code.
7 Quality control
The technological framework is closed by human audit. Before delivery to the client, every material undergoes a three-level review: head of unit, Senior-level analyst, chief security officer. What is checked is the logic of conclusions, the accuracy of wording, risk assessment, and the absence in the document of information that could create a vulnerability for the client.
Redundancy is assessed separately: information that does not serve the task but increases the sensitivity of the document is excluded from the report. A BLACKFILE report must be sufficient for decision-making while remaining safe to hold in the client's records.
